The Making Of

As the day progressed, we took five Jones students, Tico, Emmy, Eric, Melanie and Robert, with us to begin shooting the first scene in Central Houston's "Galleria."

We kidnapped some of the Jones HS students and met with the camera crew at a local Starbucks.

Our first scene was shot at a busy intersection in the city, which our production crew, Susan, Lois, Julius and Brian, scouted. The corner of Post Oak Boulevard and Westheimer is where we met to first have lunch with the Jones students and introduce them to the professional crewmembers. Around 3:00 pm, we were able to start shooting the first scene.

Our local sound guy, Brian, hooks up Geo with his microphone to prepare for taping.

We began filming at the corner of Post Oak Boulevard and Westheimer streets. Tico helped out with lighting as Susan supervised the video.

The rest of the crew relaxed on the lawn in the sun as Jenny and Geo finished up their first scene. Even though the sun was nice, some of us regretted the sunburn later.

This was the beginning of the heat wave setting in. We finished with the first scene and setup at around 3:50 then proceeded to walk across the street to record the next scene. The traffic was getting worse and worse, but this helped the shot. We needed to time the shot according the flow of traffic, which was constant along the street. While Julius shot scenes from a tree nearby with a ladder borrowed from the local Jamba Juice, Marquita was busy shadowing Lois in her directing of Jenny and Geo. After all of the stresses of shooting about 20 takes in the grueling Texas sun, we were able to relax and do a little shopping while waiting for our taxi. While we were all waiting for the taxi, we were able to absorb some of our surroundings, including rush hour, which begins around 5 pm. The local law enforcement came out to our shooting location to help direct traffic to avoid traffic jams and backups.

It was time to move on to the next scene as Jenny and Geo wait in their positions in the median. Traffic was harsh.

In order to get the shot of Jenny and Geo without the traffic blocking them, we had to borrow a ladder and Julius, our cameraman, climbed in a tree to shoot.

After a long day's work, we took two of the Jones students out to a wonderful supper with the crew and Sehba at the Red Cat Jazz Café in downtown Houston. After a long night it was finally time to crash back at the hotel and wait for another day's work, which everyone is looking forward to.

After all the shooting for the day was finished the students were able to go
back to the hotel and freshen up. Geo and Brandon sported their new look of hotel towels wrapped around the head. Aren't they cute?
