The Making Of

May 7, 2001 - EV Mania!
We meet our partner school students and staff and spend the day videotaping and learning about cool electric vehicles in the San Jose High Academy parking lot.

Hace Calor (It's so hot)! Today's temperature reached about 91 degrees, and we enjoyed every moment of it!
The crew started the day at 6:45 am. We all met in the lobby of the hotel and ate breakfast. At 7:55am, the limo returned and we loaded are luggage. Our next stop was San Jose High Academy.

JMHS teachers John Holmes and Heather Sattler meet Justin, one of our San Jose High Academy student liaisons.

Justin hangs with the Milwaukee students and Ms. Sattler in the school hallway.

We spent most of our day setting up and video taping. The electric cars used in the shots were very unique.

Mike Thompson's General Motors EV1, a factory-built electric vehicle.

Electric vehicle (EV) owners are early high-tech adopters - Will Beckett hangs out by his Solectria Force, working on his laptop.

San Jose High Academy auto teacher, Mr. John Sullivan, and EV1 owner, Mike Thompson, talk about Will's Solectria motor.

Nancy Nehring and her Daimler-Chrysler EPIC (Electric Powered Interurban Commuter).

Students talk to Ed Thorpe about his Honda EVPlus, a factory-built electric vehicle.

We met the electric car owners and learned how they kept their cars running. Some of the owners recharge their cars with their own solar panels.

With the EPIC in the background, Mike shows off a solar panel, one of many he has on his house to charge his EV1 and offset the amount of electricity he gets from the power plant.

EV owners talk to an auto technology class at San Jose High Academy before the students are released to check out the vehicles.

Bruce talks to the class about his role in the project.
